Class D

One channel - one objective - beat your subs senseless! With Class D technology in your amplifier, there's no telling how loud you can go. If you're serious about your subs, you need a serious Class D amp to go along with them.

Most audio amplifiers are plagued by inefficiency. A typical "Class A/B" design wastes half the power it produces as heat. That's power that could be going to the speakers to make the system play louder and harder. The amp has to produce twice the power it will actually use, so it's drawing plenty of unnecessary current from the vehicle's electrical system. In big systems that can cause symptoms like headlights that dim every time a bass note hits - cool to see, un-cool to drive with.

For those high-powered sub applications, there's a relatively new amp design that largely overcomes these problems. Because of the way it produces power, the "Class D" design is generally about 85% to 90% efficient, compared to the 45% to 50% efficiency of the Class A/B design described earlier. That means very little of the Class D amp's power is wasted as heat, most of the power goes to drive the subwoofers and you don't need a nuclear power plant under the hood to have serious bass in your car! That's modern technology! And that's the XM-D9001GTR and the XM-1S. So get locked and loaded with a Class D amp and make your subs a force to be reckoned with.
